4 Helpful Hints To Clear A Slow Draining Sink
Maybe you’ve been putting it off, or maybe you just aren’t sure where to start — but one thing is for sure: today is the day you fix that slow draining sink! Our plumbers share our top tips for clearing a sink at home:
Clean the Stopper
When taking a look at your bathroom sink, there’s typically a part that covers the actual drain itself. This piece is commonly known as the stopper. It helps keep the sink filled with water and helps to prevent things from flowing down the drain.
The stopper does a good job keeping large objects out of your drains, but it also can stop things like hair, toothpaste, lotion, etc., from making their way all the way down the drain. Sticky and clingy debris like this can end up wrapped around the inner base of the stopper — creating or adding to existing clogs. Removing the stopper and cleaning off the base every once in a while is the best way to prevent this from happening.
DIY A Natural Drain Cleaner
Combining baking soda and vinegar is the most popular option when it comes to fixing slow drains. Follow these steps:
- Pour one cup of baking soda down the drain
- Immediately follow it with one cup of white vinegar
- Leave the mixture to work for about ten minutes
- After ten minutes, flush the drain with hot water, and the drain should be clear
USE A PLUNGER
Stubborn clog? Try using a cup plunger to help clear the drain. Make sure the seal lies flat along the bottom of the sink basin to ensure the best suction.
