A simple camera test isn’t enough to identify problems with your drain lines. Here’s why a static test is.

Today I want to tackle a frequently asked question about whether you should use a camera test or a static test to examine your drain lines for any issues. Specifically, we’re going to talk about looking at your drain lines with a camera versus actually testing them, as well as the importance of each.

When inspecting a home for drain issues, many Realtors request a camera test for the drain lines, say they look good and tell the buyer to buy the house. However, using a camera in the drain line is only going to point out the major flaws. Typically, they’re only going to look at the main trunk line, not every single branch line.

I recommend hiring a professional to do a static test on your drain system. This is a water test that allows each branch line to be filled up and monitored to ensure there are no leaks. This test simulates a sewer stoppage, and if it passes, your drains are good to go. If it doesn’t, at least you know and aren’t kept in the dark as you would be with a camera test.
